Free-To-Play on Xbox 360: Happy Wars

The first Xbox 360 Free To Play game Happy Wars developed by Toylogic has been released on October 12th.

Microsoft is moving on to offering Free To Play games, with a second one on the way in 2013 called Ascend: New Gods. The game Ascend: New Gods game was revealed at E3 2012 and on August 28th the developers revealed that the title would be free to play.

Toylogic developed Happy Wars with a nice little story mode for single player and a multiplayer aspect that can handle 30 players simultaneously. No split screen is available so if you're at home then you can't play with your friends off the same Xbox. In the multiplayer you have to protect your tower from the other players while part of your team takes out the other teams tower. In a huge 15 vs 15 a whole variety of things can happen.

Here's a ten minute video of how the story begins. Firstly introduced to the three different character classes you can progress with: Warrior, Cleric, and Mage. Each character comes with their own unique set of abilities.

To what extent is this game free to play? Well to participate in the Multiplayer you are required to have Xbox Live Gold. That is Microsoft's once a year membership on the Xbox 360 for $59.99. It is nice incentive to persuade people to opt in on Xbox Live Gold. Having more F2P games would increase the amount of people with Xbox Live Gold?

Some of us can't afford every blockbuster title that is released so Microsoft allowing the F2P genre on the Xbox 360 is amazing. What in game content is available for purchase? I am not sure yet.

Will you be on the look out for more Free to Play games? Are you going to download Happy Wars? Do you think F2P can work on the Xbox 360? Is it completely F2P since one of the requirements for multiplayer is Xbox Live Gold?
