Wii U : No GameStop Pre-orders/ region locked

The upcoming next-generation console from Nintendo the Wii U can not be pre-ordered through GameStop anymore.

There is only 54 days left for the release of the Wii U, did you pre-order your copy? If not there's certain places that might still have it available. I have found that Walmart still has the basic edition, but only if you're willing to pay a little more than the suggested retail price. If that one does not float your boat, Toys R' Us allows you to pre-order the basic model as well, with a similar additional price jump.

Toys R' Us is trying to pull you in with your choice of a game to take along with the console. Wait a minute why is the 8gb basic set $299, but when you add a game the price jumps a $100. The deluxe set is 32gb and comes with a game for only $349.

Don't fret for people that still decide that they want to pre-order through GameStop they are now offering a wait list. Not available online from what I can see, you  must physically go to the store and show one of the employees that you're a GameStop powerup rewards member

Nintendo has also confirmed that the console will be region locked. Nintendo UK revealed the news to  Eurogamer earlier today. What is region locked? If you buy your system in the United States you will only be able to play games specifically designed for the United States. The Wii U is not the first system to be region locked, the Xbox is region locked as well. The difference is that Xbox and Playstation have left the decision up to the game publishers, if they want to deliver the game as region locked or not.

Did you even know your current console is region locked? Does this affect your choice of next-generation console?

Nintendo Wii U Deluxe Set is Unavailable

The upcoming Wii U console set for release on November 18th has received a huge amount of attention. Pre-orders for the console were available from GameStop  immediately after the release date and price were announced.

Bad news is GameStop, Best Buy, and Target are not filling any more pre-orders for the Deluxe Set.

Good News is that the basic edition is still available for pre-order at all these retailers for now.

The question for many consumers at the moment will be 'Will the Wii U Deluxe Set be available for pre-order once again before release or do I have to result to the bidding wars of Ebay?'

How are you taking the news? Will you be happy with the Basic Set since you can add an external hard drive for more memory?

Wii U Release Date and Price Announced

Are you ready for the Nintendo Wii U?

Confirmed release has been set for November 18 2012, just in time for the holiday season. Two bundles will be available for purchase, the Wii U Deluxe for $349.99 and Wii U Basic for $299.99.

The announcement was made this morning, 7 am pst, during the presentation from Reginald "Reggie" Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America President. While pre-orders of the console are not available yet by most retailers, Game Informer employee Matt Miller has put out an article stating GameStop Opens Pre-Orders For Wii U.

If you want to catch one of those consoles on release date it is highly recommended to go pre-order your copy. Now which one should you pre-order, the basic bundle or the deluxe?

The $299.99 basic white bundle will include the Wii U hardware with 8GB internal storage, Wii U GamePad and GamePad Stylus, the sensor bar, HDMI cable with the Wii U console and GamePad AC adapter.

The $349.99 Deluxe Black bundle includes everything the basic bundle has, but with a 32GB internal storage. Also included is the Nintendo Land Video Game, Wii U GamePad Stand, GamePad Cradle, Console Stand, and an additional Deluxe Digital Promotion. With the promotion you accumulate points through digital downloads which can go to future downloadable content from the Nintendo eShop.

I will be pre-ordering this future console, will you do the same?
